How come people think texas is so uneducated and behind the rest of the US? Don’t they know that some of the biggest and most high tech industry’s are here in Texas? For instance, people know that Texas is a big place for computers, since places like Dell, Apple computers and numerous other computer related companies like that are here? Also, don’t people know that Texas is, at least right now, one of the most financially sound places in the US? Are people just naive?
That’s what their libbie teachers in the superior public education and state-run schools tell them. Maybe it’s good for their self esteems, I dunno.

Because it’s true. You are a good example. LMAO! I didn’t know Cupertino is in Texas. They must really teach good geography there. Oh, yeah, it’s really financially sound, on the backs of illegals.

well the fact that they thought it would be a good idea to remove thomas jefferson from text books in favor of a more theological approach says it all….a little backwards if you ask me

I think it has more to do with the Texas school board approving text books that attempt to rewrite history or lack scientific credibility.

Only liberals feel Texas is uneducated and behind the rest of the US.
Because Texas is a red state.

It’s a popular liberal stereotype.

The reason the high tech companies have located some of their facilities there is because you are all too stupid to work for a decent wage.
And are to ignorant to have decent labor laws.

They think the same thing about North and South Carolinas. We also have high tech companies, 2 of the top medical schools and programs in the US, and manufacturers considered the top in technology assembly lines and mass production. Yet, they think we’re just dumb country hicks.
Most of the reasons they think that about Texas, Arizona, and Califonia is that they can’t understand why your state never put in place a validation system within your government and welfare system like we did. These three states complain about how the illegals are bleeding their states dry on public assistance programs but for some reason they can’t validate someones proof of residency for assistance. They also want a way to control their borders but yet will spend millions of dollars catching, deporting, and recatching illegals, but won’t spend the money on addtional border control nor a fence or wall?
This is no offense to the people, it is directed at your government and law makers for your state.
Hey, here in NC they are about 3 yrs behind the rest of the nation in public education and 1yr behind in private instruction. Thankfully I went to school in Indiana, but I can understand your resentment to the "uneducated" statement you guys get. Most of the current residents in NC are actually from out of state or considered "transplants". LOL They are slowly forcing our state to upgrade but it will be a while.

Texas is a conservative state. Conservatives tend to look to the past and tradition, without looking to the future and innovation (like Liberals). I have never been a part of the school system in Texas, so I’m not sure how it compares to Florida.
Also, just because they make computers there does not mean it’s a place for smart people. Companies may choose to move to Texas for lower taxes (b/c Conservatives) and cheap labor (illegal immigrants, poor education system leads to cheap labors b/c few people have an advanced education).

Texas does have a very large tech industry. Our major industries are aerospace, technology, financial services, and telecommunications. Austin is a center for technological innovation, mainly because the University of Texas is an elite research institution.
There are plenty of smart people in Texas, but there are a lot of dumb ones, too. It’s a big state and heavily populated.
In my opinion there are a lot of backward things that go on here. Some of it has been mentioned with the textbooks and that sort of stuff. We also have a state government that is institutionally dysfunctional because even though we’re the second most populous state, our legislature meets only for a few months every two years. They spend most of their time passing a budget and there’s little time left for anything else, which leads to some horribly written laws being signed into law. This probably doesn’t make a dent on the national consciousness, but it’s noticed by more people than you may think.
Anyway, people are right that companies move here because the tax burden and labor cost is relatively low. However, they would not move here if the workforce was as uneducated as some people believe, no matter how cheap it is to do business here.
