What are the best neighborhoods in Houston to raise a family in?
I currently live in California and would like to move to houston (or somewhere in texas) because we could afford a much nicer home there and I’ve heard Houston is in the top 10 places to raise a child.
What are the best/safest neighborhoods to raise a child?
I would Recommend The Spring Branch Area Safe Town Not So Far From Downtown Houston Low Crime Happens Ones A Year Not So Bad Spring Branch Isd Great Has Great Schools And Has The DARE program to keep kids of drugs and other bad stuff From My House Memorial City Mall is About 6 minutes Far Galleria Mall ONE Of The Bigest malls in the country 19 minutes away depends on traffic many supercenters Bunker Hill Village Center HEB,TOYS R US,best buy, lowes etc Here is a map

Not sure what was up oldtimers a**
Anyway, your are right, Houston is a great place to raise a family. Low housing cost, great school districts in the surrounding suburbs, economy is still strong.
Check out the southwest, west, northwest, northeast sides of town.
South - Clear Lake (Nasa) area
Southwest - Pearland, Sugarland
West - Katy
Northwest - Cypress, Jersey village, Tomball, Klein
North - Spring, The Woodlands
Northeast - Humble
Try to stay away from East and Southeast (channelview, galena park, pasadena, etc)

THE best is Sugarland First Colony if you can afford it. I grew up in Rosenberg and Richmond, neither of which are safe. Don’t think that if you move out in the boonies that you’ll be safer. Houston’s less inhabited outskirts are notoriously dangerous… and do you really want alligators in your front yard? If you can’t afford First Colony in Sugarland, which is understandable, go north. Stay away from places like Pasadena- smells horrible ALL the time, and if you end up in Katy aim for Cinco Ranch. Humble is nice and quiet but you’re not going to get the education you want for your kids. Spring is nice. When in doubt, stay north.
If you live in Cali, you can probably afford something nice like First Colony or Spring. If I may be so bold, however, if you do end up in First Colony be very careful in choosing where to live. You do NOT want your kid going to my old school district, Lamar CISD. I lost count how many kids we lost to gang violence and other crime. Do yourself a favor and shop by school district unless you can afford private school because the disparity in educational opportunities is painfully vast. For example, LCISD doesn’t get better than a wait list for French class because in a school of thousands of students, there is one French teacher. They have a plethora of Spanish classes, however, being that Richmond and Rosenberg are infamous for their overwhelming illegal immigrant population. In First Colony your kid will be taking Latin and playing the harp. In South Houston, your kid will probably be in the same class at teenagers who can’t read. Unfortunately, many children are left behind educationally in S Houston.
I hope this helps a bit. Be careful as Houston can be the best or worst place to raise a child. The further south, the worse it gets except for the exception of Sugarland. Of course, if you go a bit south down the coast you will find Corpus Christi which is possibly the most beautiful coastal city and if you can afford it, I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t want to live there. Good luck to you.

I recommend Sugar Land too. It is in the Fort Bend ISD and has excellent schools. There is everything you need here, hospitals, health clubs, shopping mall, restaurants, parks, little league parks, soccer fields, ice skating rink, theaters and they just announced the site for a professional minor league baseball park. It is close enough to Houston if you need to travel there. What else do you need??? Most subdivisions here have a swimming pool that homeowners can use providing their association fees are up to date.

If you want something closer to the city look at Bellaire or West U. Memorial is also nice. All of these neighborhoods are safe and classy and are mainly filled with regular families.
